Heating & Hot Water

Underfloor Heating in Watford & Hertfordshire

Underfloor heating warms a room evenly from the floor up, frees your walls from radiators and suits extensions, kitchens and bathrooms especially well.

Underfloor heating spreads gentle heat across the whole floor, so a room feels warm and comfortable without hot spots near a radiator. Because it runs at a lower temperature than radiators, it works well with modern condensing boilers and with heat pumps.

Every installation starts with planning. We look at the room, the floor build-up, the insulation and your heat source, then work out the layout, the zones and the controls so each room can be set to its own temperature. It is easiest to fit during an extension, a new kitchen or a bathroom renovation, when the floor is already being laid, and we can work alongside your builder.

What an underfloor heating project includes

  • A visit to look at the rooms, floors and heat source
  • Layout, zones and controls planned for each room
  • Fitting the system and connecting it to your heating
  • Room thermostats so each zone has its own temperature
  • Pressure testing before the floor goes down
  • Commissioning, balancing and a full handover

Underfloor heating suits you if

  • Tiled or stone floors feel cold underfoot
  • You are renovating a bathroom
  • You are planning a heat pump in future

What affects the price

The cost depends on the floor area, the floor build-up, how many zones and thermostats you want and how the system connects to your heating. It is most cost effective when the floor is already being laid. After the visit we give you a written price for the whole job.

Questions

Underfloor Heating: common questions

Can underfloor heating go in an existing home?

Yes. It is easiest during a renovation or extension when the floor is being laid, but low-profile systems can also go over many existing floors. We check the floor build-up on the visit and tell you what is possible.

Does underfloor heating work with my boiler?

In most homes, yes. Underfloor heating runs at a lower temperature than radiators, and we fit the controls it needs to work alongside your existing boiler and radiators.

Can I have underfloor heating in some rooms and radiators in others?

Yes, this is very common. Many homes have underfloor heating in the kitchen, extension or bathroom and keep radiators upstairs, with each area on its own controls.

Which floor finishes work with underfloor heating?

Tiles and stone work best because they pass heat through easily. Engineered wood, laminate and vinyl also work with the right system and temperature settings, and we advise on this when we plan the job.
